Deathsun 2012 – novella – print cover in-progress

Here is the cover for the print edition of DEATHSUN 2012 – a novella. It was assembled in Photoshop, using a CreateSpace PDF template for guidance. Soon, it will go to CreateSpace, along with the interior of the book, for proofing. With any luck, there will be a print edition of my book available soon!

The colours and resolution are a bit degraded, as remember – this is a cover for print. As such, it was created in the CMYK colour space, and at a much higher resolution than this .jpg can portray with its RGB colours. This is just a glimpse.

Deathsun 2012 – novella

My new novella is now out as an Ebook!

“It’s December 21, 2012 – the night many believe the world will end. Four friends gather in a remote house to wait out “the end of the world” – but they are not alone! Supernatural forces are close by, as the veil between the worlds is thin at this time of universal transformation, and the great battle of Revelation, of good vs. evil, is yet to begin.”

It’s the proof of my poetry collection “A Conspicuous Medium”

It looks pretty good, but think I’m going to make a couple of tweaks before approving the proof.

Birds and eggs need help!

red_winged_blackbird – image copyright its owner.

A Red-winged Blackbird family has built a nest on a house due to be torn down soon, and there are eggs in the nest!

Aside from hoping that the demolition permit continues to be delayed and that the eggs will have time to hatch, and the young to fly away, does anyone know what to do?

These birds are very aggressive in defense of their nests, so moving the nest will be difficult. And, if the nest is moved, will the parent birds even want the eggs anymore?

Any experienced help would be appreciated!

(They also want to cut down a large evergreen pine-type tree that is estimated at 50 to 75 years old to build a new house. The trunk is not thick enough to be protected under Toronto’s by-laws, apparently. Sad.)

*Update: Looks like the birds have flown the coop – so we don’t have to worry what will happen when the house is torn down. Not sure about the tree, yet.

July 7, 2012

Wow, has it really been over a month since I’ve posted here? Not that I’ve been idle – far from it!

I’m continuing to write, a few different things at the moment. I’ve finished a short story, but not sure when it will be out, as my current priority is finishing the novelization of my original screenplay “Deathsun 2012”. It might be a good idea to get it out before the end of 2012, I reckon…

We’ve been going through a heatwave here in Toronto lately, or maybe it’s just that we are moving into a new “normal” – I guess we’ll see!

In other news, RUSH is on tour! And, Leonard Cohen, too! What a year it’s going to be for concerts! SEE THEM ALL BEFORE THE WORLD ENDS! (Just kidding, the world is not going to end in 2012 – despite what some of my stories may say! 😉 It’s the New Age of Aquarius coming – out with the old, in with the new; the cycle turns, again.)

Stay cool,
-Dave

Working on new writing

So, I’ve had my first novel out for about a year now (Brainjob), and am now working on some other novels. That first one took me several years to finish, on and off. But now, I’ve gained a lot more writing experience and discipline, so, I will have more novels finished, soon. I don’t have a problem with lack of ideas, but finding time to write them all down! Also, I want to get my already published ebooks out as paper books, so I’ve got that to do. Then, there are audio books to record. Whew! It’s endless! Good thing I enjoy it all! (Plus, I’m going to have to go and see some of the new movies that are out! There’s a Tim Burton movie “Dark Shadows”, and a Ridley Scott movie out – “Prometheus”!)

Spinners

The spinners drift down from the tall Maple tree,
tiny marvels of engineering,
by The Great Engineer,
somewhere in the sky,
or beyond,
tiny transmitters of seeds,
some falling near their parent,
others traveling a long way on the wind,
some will clog the neighbour’s drainpipes,
some will grow into more trees,
and make their own seeds one day,
and some of the seeds will be food for the squirrels;
maybe that’s why the tree made so many.

2 of my short screenplays together

Hi all. I’ve combined 2 of my short screenplays into 1 ebook: “The Cask Of Amontillado” – a modern screenplay of the Edgar Allan Poe classic, with bonus screenplay “One Journey”.

The first one “The Cask Of Amontillado” is based on the Edgar Allan Poe short story, updated to modern times, with a mafia bent. The second is “One Journey” -  a surreal tale of a man’s search. These screenplays sell for $1.99 each, but with this bundle you can get them both for $2.99. Order from Smashwords.com or you favourite online ebook retailer. Thanks, Dave.
