Sun Ra and his Arkestra

I was able to see a live performance of Sun Ra and his Arkestra a few years back. Though he was in a wheelchair for most of the time, Sun Ra still shone (hard not to in those groovy outfits!). It was great to be able to shake his hand.

Here’s a video of him on stage in Japan…looks like a good time.

Full Moon – madness

The moon last night was not full, but almost. Still, it was very lovely and bright. I was enjoying it very much!

Tonight IS the full moon…maybe that’s why things have been a bit strange today! With all the energy of Spring, there’s a lot of things happening! It’s a good time to reflect on where we want to go.

I’ve gotten back to editing my first novel, after a break from it. The editing is going well! I’m going to touch it up as much as I can before handing it over to an editor. I’m having fun doing it, so that makes it easier!

Also, I’m working on some live video for a band I met recently.

And, I wrote some more scenes for my new movie coming up, that I want to film this Fall (and, had a great meeting with musicians/actors for it this past weekend!).

So,  a creative day!

I hope you enjoy the full moon and keep safe.

Jack Pierce, make up artist on Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, and others

The excellent radio show Cinephobia, broadcast out of CKLN in Toronto,  just ran a contest to give away some tickets to a screening of a 35mm print of  the 1931 FRANKENSTEIN! I didn’t win the contest, but in answering their contest question, I was reminded of the incredible work of Jack Pierce who did the make up for Boris Karloff in Frankenstein, and Lon Chaney, Jr. in The Wolf Man, among other films. There’s an interesting read about Pierce at Wikipedia.

I directed a short film/commercial a little while back which featured our own “Frankenstein” and you can watch it below:

That make up is not easy! We could have used his help on the set! Jack Pierce, RIP.

Viddy well!
