new William Gibson book "Zero History" on the way!
I can barely wait! Gibson is one of my favourite writers. I’ve read most of his work, even the unproduced screenplays! 😉 I think I’ll get it in hardcover, as it would be lovely to have that signed.
I had a chance to meet William Gibson in a book store in Vancouver several years ago. That was interesting. We talked a little about sci-fi and writing. Then, a bit about Macs.

This past weekend, mutants and SubGenii came from far and wide, gathered together and awaited XDAY – THE DAY THE WORLD ENDS AND THE UFOS COME TO SAVE US!
Every XDAY from 1 XDAY to 12 XDAY has been a total letdown, as the world is still here and every SubGenius is not aboard Nirvana-filled pleasure UFO saucers, filled with SEX GODDESSES and everything else you could ever want, dream of, or imagine.
Why would anyone have hope that 13 XDAY would be any different and we wouldn’t be let down again? Because Bob said so, that’s why.
13 XDAY or XIII XDAY was on July 5th, 2010 and guess what? What happened?
NOTHING!! The world is still here and no UFO saviors, as Bob promised!! No SEX GODDESSES!!! WTF?
But, rejoice! Ye, the workings of Bob are strange and mysterious! There is no need for upset! Bob is a fickle one, and X-DAY will come to pass one…XDAY soon. As the living avatar of slack, can we expect anything less from Bob?
The Church of the SubGenius spreads the word of Bob across the globe like oil from an underwater Volcano: thick, gooey and hot!
I’ll be keeping my eyes on the skies until next XDAY!

Happy Summer – Summer Solstice! The longest day of the year! (northern hemisphere)
Today is the first day of Summer…the Summer Solstice – the Sun at the height of its power for the year (in the northern hemisphere).
What’s the Summer Solstice? For those who don’t know, today is the day with the longest time of daylight: the longest day of the year! Today is the day when the sun is the highest in the sky, in the northern hemisphere. In the southern hemisphere, welcome Winter!
From here on in, the days are getting shorter for us northerners, while you southerners will notice your days getting longer.
FIFA "ambush marketing" stunt gets women arrested
I got a smile when I saw this picture and news story.
36 Dutch women dressed in orange mini-dresses attended the FIFA Netherlands-Denmark game in Johannesburg and caused quite a stir. That’s a pretty novel idea and very easy on the eyes, so what’s the issue? It seems they were part of a marketing campaign for a Dutch beer company – Bavaria. This “free” form of marketing that has been dubbed “ambush marketing.” The two organizers of the stunt were arrested.
But, the last thing that comes to my mind is having anyone arrested! It’s a strange world at times…! See the videos below. Fun!

Oil spill "vacuum cleaner" from Kevin Costner and his brother’s company to be used in the Gulf!
A few years ago, actor Kevin Costner and his scientist brother perfected a centrifugal “vacuum cleaner” device that can purify the water from oil spills. Their technology has already been used in an oil spill in Japan. Coster spent $24 million of his own money on the venture. They are working to get permission to use their devices right now in the Gulf.
Let’s hope this works!
Latest News: They have sold 32 of their oil recovery machines to BP to that will clean and recycle 6 million gallons of water a day! The machines will be deployed in the Gulf as soon as they can get them made!
Foggy Day in the GTA!
It’s been a rainy, grey and foggy day here around Toronto. Take a look at some video from this afternoon – fog as far as you can see in all directions! Visibility about 50 feet!
Andy Warhol Foundation offers writers $30,000 grants
Pop Icon Andy Warhol left behind a legacy not only of art, but of support for the arts.
If you write about the arts, then this grant may be for you. There are several categories of writing that are funded including: articles, blogs, books, new and alternative media and short-form writing.
Someone in the States can apply to this. I can’t as a Canadian, so I wanted to pass it along.
The deadline to apply is June 7, 2010.
David Lynch Dior "Lady Blue" Le Poem ad online
David Lynch is one of my favourite filmmakers, and a true artist, I think. This new short film/promo spot for Dior brings back memories of Dune (with the straight-on voice over to camera and the tone of it, too). It’s a dreamy piece, with some of Lynch’s leitmotifs: atmospheric rock n’ roll and dancing, a beautiful woman, red curtains, suspense, beautiful rooms and otherworldly visual effects.
It’s interesting to see the amount of creative input Lynch put into this. He’s the writer, director, one of the camera operators, one of the composers and the editor! A filmmaker after my own heart! What fun! What a joy to experience work like this, that shines so strongly with Lynch’s signature style!
